My Story
From a Love for Music to a Life in Sound
I didn’t start as a musician. I started as a fan—someone who couldn’t get enough of the way music made me feel. Every beat, every lyric, every mix had the power to shift my emotions, paint pictures in my mind, and move me in ways I didn’t fully understand. I wasn’t just listening—I was studying, obsessing, trying to break apart the magic of what made music feel alive.
But I didn’t know where I fit in. I couldn’t play guitar. I wasn’t a singer. I didn’t grow up in a studio. What I had was passion and a spark. The first time I ever worked on music was to help a friend in high school. I watched some YouTube videos, learned what equipment I needed, and ordered everything I could find. The second I started unboxing that gear, I knew—I had found my calling.
That passion led me to Hocking College, where I majored in Music Production & Business, studying under Neil Tuuri, an incredible engineer and instructor. I learned everything—not just how to mix and master, but how sound itself works. How frequencies interact. How audio hardware is built. How to sculpt a track so it doesn’t just sound good—it hits. My obsession turned into skill, and that skill led me to running the college studio, breaking a school record for recording sessions in a semester, and proving that this was what I was meant to do.
The Leap of Faith
A degree in music is nice on paper, but the real industry runs on connections, experience, and undeniable skill. I spent two years working dead-end jobs, trying to break into the world I knew I belonged in, until I got my first real shot—an invite to be part of a music interview series in Cincinnati. That trip introduced me to Timeless Recording Studios, producer Evan “X” Johnson, and a life-changing opportunity.
I slept in my car for five days to make that opportunity work. I showed up to every meeting, every session—whatever was asked of me. And when an engineer no-showed while I was there, I stepped up. I ran the session, built connections with artists, and made such an impact that the artists requested to exclusively work with me moving forward. Having proven my ability in that short time, X offered me an internship. Within a month, I packed up my life, quit my job, and moved to Cincinnati with nothing but faith in my craft.
It paid off. Within a month, I was hired full-time. Not two months later, I became one of the city’s most booked engineers. Within a year, I was Chief Engineer of Timeless Recording Studios. I worked with legends—Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Lloyd, 2 Chainz, City Girls, Raheem DeVaughn, and more. Companies including Universal, ESPN, the NFL, MMG, and P&G for example.
But more than the big names, what fueled me was helping driven artists craft their sound at the highest level. Not just creating, but building relationships, pushing their music to be undeniable, and giving them the quality they need to break through.
YrGirlsFav – More Than Just a Name
One thing that’s always set me apart is my chemistry with artists. When people step into a session with me, it’s not just business—it’s real connection, real energy, real investment in their craft. That’s something Tyler Hogans, host of the Table for Three podcast, saw firsthand when I worked on his show.
At first, I was just the engineer behind the scenes. But over time, he and his co-hosts loved my energy so much, they made me a part of the show. And one day, Tyler introduced me with an over-the-top list of titles, including Mr. Nice Watch and, most importantly, "Your Girlfriend’s Favorite Engineer." It was meant as a joke—but something about it stuck.
The title made its way through artists, sessions, and circles, and before long, I knew it wasn’t just a catchphrase—it was a brand. I shortened it to YrGirlsFav, but the phrase still holds. Because "Your Girlfriend’s Favorite Engineer" isn’t just about being liked—it’s about being the engineer you trust with your sound.
A Vision for Artists. A Sound That Lasts.
With everything I’ve learned, every artist I’ve worked with, and every track I’ve touched, I started YrGirlsFav to give creatives the best possible foundation for success. Whether it’s recording, production, mixing, or mastering, my mission is the same—to take your vision and transform it into a sound that stands the test of time.
Great music doesn’t just exist. It lives on forever.
